Award winning Scottish singer songwriter Dean Owens is widely regarded as one of UK’s finest troubadours, with fans including authors Irvine Welsh and Ian Rankin, and BBC legend Bob Harris (“one of my favourite artists”). Hard to pin down to a particular genre, his music is a unique blend of Scottish roots and Americana –the unfettered enthusiasm of a rock n roller coupled with the sympathetic delivery of folk’s best storytellers. Winner of UK Song Of The Year Award 2019 (AMA-UK), his writing encapsulatesa deceptively simple but masterful economy of songcraft. A compelling and engaging performer, with a searingly soulful voice that is warm, subtle and powerful.
Dean’s music has taken him all over the world, particularly throughout the USA, where he has made most of his 8 solo albums, including the upcoming Sinner’s Shrine, recorded in Tucson with “desert noir” legends Calexico. Sinner’s Shrine will be launched at Celtic Connections 2022 (released on 18 Feb 2022, jointly on Eel Pie Records (UK) and Continental Record Services (Netherlands)). While still rooted in Dean’s signature sound, the songs on Sinner’s Shrine see him pushing the boundaries, adding desert noir and Latin notes to his musical palette.
As a warm up to Sinner’s Shrine (while live touringground to a sudden halt due to the pandemic) Dean released a triple EP package -The Desert Trilogy -throughout 2021, with some songs from the album sessions and some recorded long distance in lockdown. The reaction has generated some of the best reviewsof his career to date, as well as finding new fans in Scandinavia and Europe, particularly in Netherlands, Germany, France and Spain.
