JKL Duo – ‘The International Poet’ at Quarrymen's Arts Centre

The JKL Duo met in 2015 when Jacopo came from Rome to Glasgow to complete an Erasmus year at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Since then, their musical partnership has taken them to concert halls and recital spaces around Scotland. They bring to Creetown their imaginative and creative programme, ‘The International Poet’, featuring new music composed especially for them during lockdown, based on some of the most celebrated works of Robert Burns.

They have imagined what Burns could have created, should he have been alive today, in a world where physical distance is no longer the obstacle it once was to communication, collaboration and creation. The traditional tunes are still recognisable, but all with an international twist.

Quarrymen's Arts Centre

A brand new venue in the heart of Galloway, Quarrymen’s Arts Centre provides an intimate, historic setting for a variety of performing arts, attracting both regional and national artists. An impressive, granite-built former church, Quarrymen’s sits proudly above Creetown village, with stunning views across the Cree estuary and Solway coastline. The venue is community owned and recently underwent a full refurbishment to transform the building from a run-down hall to a vibrant, contemporary performing arts venue, with tasteful echoes of its rich quarrying and musical heritage. Quarrymen’s benefits from a state of the art, 80-seat raked seating system in the main auditorium, which can also be retracted to provide a larger floor space, plus a meeting/green room, kitchenette, accessible toilets, external lawn area and car parking. Quarrymen’s Arts Centre is situated in a perfectly rural, thriving community, yet is well-connected by road; only 2 miles off the main trunk road connecting the north of England with west Scotland and the ferries to Northern Ireland.

Address - Hill St, Creetown, Newton Stewart DG8 7HG

Phone no - 01671 820654

Accessibility - Our newly refurbished venue is on ground floor level and is accessible throughout, including space for wheelchair users in the auditorium, accessible toilets and parking on site
