Mugenkyo are a South Lanarkshire based performing arts company, internationally renowned for their energetic & theatrical modern style based on traditional Japanese drumming. Their performance history includes 1,000s of concerts at prestigious venues throughout the UK, including in Scotland: Edinburgh Usher Hall, Glasgow Kings Theatre, Dundee Caird Hall, Aberdeen Music Hall, Motherwell Concert Hall, Ayr Gaiety, Kilmarnock Palace Theatre. In 2002 they opened the UK’s first Taiko Drumming Centre, and through the years have been featured on various film, TV and recording projects. This year they were filmed for the upcoming blockbuster “Tin Soldier” in Greece alongside Jamie Foxx & Robert DeNiro, performed a 2-week run at the World Expo in Dubai, and last year were featured on the BBC TV Tokyo Olympics programme for the opening big drum sequence.
This autumn, Mugenkyo have been selected by “Scotland on Tour” to present their thrilling live performance at a limited number of local venues in Strathaven, Darvel, Cumnock, Blackwood & Biggar. This is a unique opportunity to experience this powerful art-form by the UK’s leading taiko group, up close & personal at a venue near you. Don’t miss it!
“Showcasing the ancient art of taiko drumming with lightning-fast synchronisation & complex rhythms on huge barrel-sized instruments. Hypnotic and primal, the show is an entrancing display of physicality, precision & discipline.”
“This show is not one to be missed.”

Strathaven Town Mill
The Town Mill was built in 1650 by William, the Second Duke of Hamilton, who was then resident in Strathaven Castle which sits adjacent to the Mill. The Town Mill played an integral part in the working life of Strathaven for three and a quarter centuries. The Mill was given an added storey in 1877 to make room for a larger water wheel, and this new power source extended the use of the Town Mill into brewing, printing and metal works. After production ceased in 1966, The Mill sadly fell quickly into disrepair. In 1974, Strathaven Arts Guild conceived and commenced its ambitious programme of converting the dilapidated Mill into an Arts Centre.
